About This Campaign

Each new home costsHabitat Birmingham approximately $85,000 for land, materials, and labor. Yourcontribution (as a church or an individual) helps to offset these costs,allowing more homes to be built for area families each year.

To volunteer to work on this home click the green “Volunteer”button. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old to work on a constructionsite. No construction experience is necessary. Tools and training will beprovided by the construction site supervisor.

This home is being constructed in partnership with Falan Andersonand her two children. Ms. Anderson is a Birmingham native and the proud mom ofKaleah, who attends Fairfield High Preparatory School and KaDerious, whoattends C.J. Donald Elementary School. Kaleah is an honor student and member ofthe national Junior Beta Club. KaDerious is a wonderful math student whoreceived a medal for obtaining the highest math score in his grade. 

Ms. Anderson attended Ensley High School and Alabama StateUniversity. She holds associate degrees from Lawson State Community College inBuilding Construction and Business Administration. She was named Lawson’s MissBuilding Construction in 2014 and was inducted into Phi Beta Lambda and KappaBeta Delta honor societies respectively. She plans to continue her educationand complete undergraduate and graduate degrees in business. 

Ms. Anderson believes owning a home will add to her family’ssense of freedom, security and stability. She is looking forward to watchingher children enjoy their home and neighborhood without the threat of violenceor crime. She and her family are grateful to the supporters and volunteersbuilding her home. Her family attends Faith Chapel Christian Center inBirmingham.

Campaign to Support Habitat for Humanity Greater Birmingham

Habitat Birmingham builds and repairs homes in partnership with low-to-moderate income families to support affordable housing and disaster recovery needs in Jefferson, Shelby, Walker, and St. Clair counties.


 Houses are not given away;

 Zero percent financing is offered to qualified families for new and repaired homes;

 Applicants qualify based on three criteria: (1) need for quality, affordable housing; (2)  willingness to partner with Habitat Birmingham (minimum 300 “sweat equity” hours and 10 hours of home ownership education workshops); and, (3) ability to repay a no interest mortgage;

 $85,000 is the average cost of new house construction (including land);

 $500 is the average monthly mortgage payment (varies based on house size, taxes, etc.);

 Families are required,and the general public is welcome, to attend education and repair workshops instructed by volunteers with expertise in financial planning, insurance, etc.;

 Ranks in top 15 out of more than 1,400 Habitat affiliates in the US by Habitat for Humanity International;

 Recognized as top 15 home builders in the Birmingham area by the Birmingham Business Journal (ranked by number of building permits).
